Ragtag
Last updated August 11, 2026
Ragtag was included in the MICHELIN Guide New Zealand 2026 Restaurant Selection (MICHELIN Selected), a quick signal that the kitchen’s confident, idiosyncratic cooking matters beyond neighbourhood chatter. That distinction matters because it points to consistent technique and imagination — you’re paying for thoughtful plates, not gimmicks.
The duck carnitas tacos — served in house-made duck‑fat flour tortillas — are an Iconic Auckland Eats winner and a signature dish of the restaurant. The team make more than 400 of those tortillas by hand every day, and the slow-cooked duck is the kind of rich, textural filling that explains why this dish draws reservations. Other plates, like the octopus tostada and sticky toffee pudding, share the same cross-cultural playfulness: Taiwanese, Southern BBQ and British pub notes reworked into taco-style formats.
Set on Garnet Road in Westmere, the room is compact, dog-friendly and often fully booked; booking ahead is sensible. Expect a high-price tag that reflects labour-intensive technique and clearly sourced produce.
