Since its opening in the summer of 2019, this sun-soaked osteria has quickly become a favoured Italian dining spot among locals and visitors alike, known for its exceptional drinks and a mouthwatering wood-fired menu.

The transformation of the former Siostra space into Lilian was a labour of love by owners Hugo Baird, Willy Gresson, and Otis Gardner Schapiro. They infused the venue with an air of Mediterranean charm – light, textured walls, intimate lighting, and luxurious dark-red booths invite diners into a space that feels both holiday-like and intimately connected to Grey Lynn's bustling street life.

The culinary offerings, crafted with care by Gardner Schapiro, ensure that this osteria is more than a mere backdrop for socialites. From the wood-fired oven emerges an array of dishes that speak to the heart of comfort food, yet with an invigorating zest. The air-filled bread and pizzas, such as the unique prosciutto with grapes or the innovative tuatua and fennel cream pizza, are standout examples of their approach.

But, it's not all about the pizza, the menu offers dishes like lamb rump accompanied by fig mostarda and crème fraîche, and brussels sprouts enriched with chicken skin – each a testament to the kitchen's ability to combine hearty fare with a touch of freshness.
