Cinema 1 is the draw: the Los Feliz 3’s largest screen has been programmed by the American Cinematheque since August 2021, with 35mm and DCP repertory screenings, filmmaker Q&As and curated special events. For anyone who likes seeing older films treated as live cultural occasions rather than background content, it is one of the neighbourhood’s most reliable rooms.

The building gives that programming some useful weight. The Los Feliz Theatre opened in 1935, designed by Clifford A. Balch, and although it is now a triplex operated by Vintage Cinemas, Cinema 1 still carries the appeal of a historic neighbourhood movie house rather than a blank multiplex screen.

You will find it at 1822 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles , CA 90027, in the heart of Los Feliz Village. Skylight Books and the Dresden Lounge are close by, so a screening here fits easily into an evening built around the area rather than a single ticketed stop.
